November 8th

Moving to a completely new place was difficult. We had no idea what Ohio was going to be like and it was a little scary not knowing anyone in the area. As soon as we arrived however, people were incredibly nice. A couple of days after we moved in, two of C’s classmates got his contact information from one of their professors and invited us to dinner! Then a few days after that, another couple invited us, along with the other people in that particular major, to their house for a cookout. I was so impressed by how wonderful everyone was and have been to us. But the more I think about it, I don’t know why I was so surprised by their friendliness. They are all in the same boat as we are. I have found that we have so much in common with several people we have met, and it’s just nice to know that our situation is shared and understood by everyone else here.

If you know us personally here at weaving and weather, you might know that my husband and I are not the most social butterflies out there. We are both pretty shy when it comes to new people and situations, and we are very much home bodies. But, being as everyone was so instantly nice to us, it was easier than I thought it would be to become comfortable around new people.

I am thankful for the new friends that I have made. Between my husband’s study group and their spouses and girlfriends, our church small group, and a recipe club that I have been attending with other spouses of air force graduate school students, I have become acquainted with some really wonderful people. And I actually have one friend in particular who has helped me to get out of my shell and try all of afore mentioned activities! It’s just nice to have someone that I can go have coffee with for no other reason than to share some girl time over a warm beverage in a cute local place. It’s been a while since I have gotten to do that, and it just makes me realized how blessed we have been by the people we have met here. So, today, I am thankful for new friends in new places who can relate to our situation because they have been in the exact same circumstance.

Wonderful to have girlfriends, they add the zip to the day. May you and C be the ones making others feel at home in the future as you have been in the newbee’s shoes.
